There are many tools of the trade that have helped us blog better over the years. We like to quickly spotlight a few of the tools that have helped us blog better.

Wordpress.org - Without Wordpress we would be lost. The standalone platform found at Wordpress.org is search engine optimized, extremely easy to use and updated often

Slow-PC Fighter by SpamFighter.com - this tool will speed-up and optimize your computer fixing errors and make your Slow PC fast again.

HootSuite - Schedule your social media updates on Twitter and Facebook. Set updates to go out weeks in advance.

iPhone - All of your contacts, Emails, Calendar/Events plus the power of 1,000’s of apps on-the-go in an easy to understand, integrated format that makes sense. The iPhone 4 camera is perfect for any food blogger taking pictures on the go. I have found it to be better than my 10.2 mega pixel Sony Cyber-Shot.

Urbanspoon, Yelp, FourSquare and Google Places - Polling public opinion for research is not the end-all of opinion but it sure does help you gain insight and potential gain clues on a restaurant before you visit. Many times you will find these websites to be the best sources for information until you visit for yourself. I recommend subscribing to their comment RSS if they have one.

Holiday accommodation in New York is always very hard to find, and to find something at a reasonable price is even harder. Manhattan is the most popular region for tourists, with Times Square been the heart of the district.

The city has four distinct seasons, ranging from freezing cold winters to quite hot summers. Spring and Autumn are often regarded as the best time to visit as it is not too cold or too hot.

A lot of Europeans come across during the cold winter months to shop and are amazed at the beautiful blue sky but surprised at how cold it is. If they are lucky and there is a snow fall, they will flock to Central Park and join the locals sledding and some even ski on Pilgrim Hill. Most tourists try to avoid New York in the summer when temperatures are often unbearable, however the temperature at easter is often perfect.

Tourists like to visit Fifth Avenue where there are several parades held there each year and also free concerts. St Patrick’s Day Parade consists of tens of thousands of locals covering the entire area in a sea of green costumes and floats on March 17th each year. The parade starts at Fifth Avenue and 44th Street at 11am each year.

During May they celebrate Martin Luther King; in fact most New Yorkers like to celebrate with parades most months and many of these parades start on Fifth Avenue.

The city offers a wide range of accommodation catering for most price ranges. A new popular form of accommodation is the renting of holiday apartments and homes in the heart of the city. Holiday accommodation here is often very hard to get hold of.

New York is also famous for the large number of restaurants that it has. It is said that there are over 17,000 and just about every imaginable taste is catered for. New Yorkers are hard people to please when it comes to their food and as a result restaurants offer excellent service and quality of food to please them. New Yorkers also like good value for money and in order for restaurants to survive, they have had to offer extremely good value for money.

The city also has a great selection of antique shops and art galleries. It is regarded as the entertainment capital of the world with ballet, dance, concerts, opera and theatre. Most tourists come back to New York year after year as the City has so much for them to see and do.

There are also plenty of coffee houses, grills, steak houses and Chinese restaurants offering a very good choice of cheap food with quick friendly service. For people in a rush, New York offers some of the best fast food outlets in the world. It does not matter if it is day or night, you can always get something to eat twenty four hours a day in New York.

Most coffee houses are also open twenty four hours a day in New York and many serve hamburgers and grilled cheese sandwiches. There is something special about having a strong black coffee in New York sitting in a Coffee House watching the rest of the City go about their work as you relax taking in the atmosphere.

As well as having some fabulous shops on Fifth Avenue (Most of the famous department stores are based here), New York is also home to Trump Tower. It is worth a visit to Trump Tower just to experience the sheer elegance and opulence of the boutiques.

New York truly is the city that never sleeps, but if you’re there on vacation you most certainly will want a good nights sleep. Holiday homes and holiday villas are both available for rent in and around the city, but your best bet for quality holiday accommodation is a hotel.

Dining on the cheap in New York City isn’t nearly as hard as you may thing it is. New York is a city of many nations in that there are probably more nations represented in the dining options of New York than any other city in the world. You can find wonderful food options that represent these many nations and won’t break your wallet. What a wonderful way to literally enjoy the flavors of the world while on vacation!

Rainbow Falafel is the first place I recommend. This may very well be the best falafel shop (if you can call it that) in New York City. If you’ve never tried falafel you are definitely in for a tasty treat. Falafel is essentially a ball of veggies and spices (chick peas, onions, garlic, and other goodies) that has been fried and placed into a pita along with tomato, hummus, lettuce, and yogurt. Getting hungry? We’ve only just begun.

Gray’s Papaya offers the best hot dogs in the city, particularly when you consider the fact that it is hard to mess up hot dogs, especially when that’s all you do for the price. The price in fact is what keeps packing the clientele in by the droves. Where else in New York can you get two hot dogs and a drink for two dollars? Be warned however that the décor and atmosphere are about what you’d expect in a restaurant that charged two bucks for the average meal and don’t expect a Jimmy Buffet type of atmosphere with umbrella drinks and neon colors.

For hoagies of heroic or would that be epic proportions you really must try Tony Luke’s. The décor is simple and the service is quick. You won’t find a huge menu or massive variety of specialty breads or carb friendly diet options here (there are some items but not a massive selection). What you will get are mammoth sandwiches with lots of meat and perhaps a side of cheese fries and a soda to wash it down with. The food is good and the price is right making this one of the best cheap places to eat in the city.

Whether you refer to it as southern fare or soul food, the Soul Spot has it going on. They offer many of the traditional Sunday dinner types of foods such as fried catfish, fried chicken, and vegetables dripping in ‘drippings’ for those willing to risk the impending heart attack. This food is certainly and fabulous example of the culinary delights one would experience in the south while also being offered at a price that is comparable to what you would pay on a Mississippi Sunday afternoon. They do offer a lunch menu that is a little bit less expensive than the dinner menu and either offers a great value for the money.

Schnack is another institution of inexpensive dining excellence in the great big city of New York. If you have a Krystal’s or a White Castle in your area then you’ll get the concept of “Schnackies” which are very much like the burgers you’ll find in the joints I’ve mentioned above. Be assured however that you also have other choices if the cheap little burgers aren’t really your thing. If you make it in before 5 PM you can have eggs almost anyway you can think of having them and if you have the time and the room you really should try Harry’s Famous Warm Chocolate and Banana Bread Pudding. My mouth is watering from just thinking about it.

The point to all of this, other than getting you good and hungry was to let you know that despite its reputation for being an expensive place to visit, if you know where to look you can not only find cheap entertainment but also cheap food. You can enjoy the best that New York City has to offer without breaking your budget. And cheap isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Author: Ryan Otman

New York City is one of the most popular destinations for travel and tourism in the continental United States. Often referred to as “the greatest city in the world”, New York is home to some of the most diverse cultural centers and experiences to be found. With so many options, it’s easy for visitors to the Big Apple to feel overwhelmed. If one has only so many days to experience NYC, how should they be spent?

Here are 5 tops from a NYC native for how to make the most of your trip to New York City.

Tip #1 - Timing is Everything

New York is an exciting city, with a new photo opportunity on every corner. Areas like Times Square and the Theatre District are home to some of the most well-known images of NYC. While they feature some of the finest NYC hotels, they are also home to a large population of working New Yorkers, and are located very close to a major NYC transportation center (The Port Authority). Wandering these sidewalks and taking photographs is best done after 10AM and before 4:30PM, outside of city “rush hours”. Lingering too long on a sidewalk during rush hours is a good way to get swept up in the current of people walking to or from their places of employment, and possibly elbowed out of the way. While most New Yorkers are happy to have a thriving tourism industry, tourists must also respect the fact that not everyone is on vacation today.

Tip #2 - Learn and Use New York’s Public Transportation Systems

New York City traffic is a strange beast that can transform your 3-block travel route into a 2-hour standstill. All vehicles navigating the gridmap streets of NYC are subject to these traffic jams, including the famous yellow taxi cabs. To avoid spending your vacation sitting in the back of a cab, consider walking to your destination or utilize NYC’s subway system. Most New York City residents do not own cars, since the NYC Subway is the largest rapid transit system in the world. Metro cards are inexpensive, compared to other major cities, and grant you access to almost anywhere you may want to visit while exploring the Big Apple.

Tip #3 - Dress for the Seasons

Although New York City is geographically located in a temperate part of the US, the actual topography of the city can make for some unpredictable and extreme weather conditions. Like in many big cities, the presence of tightly-grouped tall buildings can turn a blustery day into a gust of wind that will turn your umbrella inside out. In the winter months, this has a compounding effect on the windchill factor of the local weather. In summer, the large amount of paved and developed land in New York City gives the heat and sunlight few paths of escape. Even though NYC is on the water, areas in-land can get quite warm with so much concrete and steel for the heat to bounce off of. When planning your vacation to NYC, make sure to pack for every weather contingency possible for the season you’ll be there during.

Tip #4 - Leave Unplanned Days to Explore NYC

While there may be an abundance of guided tours and planned outings available in New York City, some of your most memorable experiences may come by surprise. In between the tours and attractions, set aside at least one day to explore without a set route. Although Manhattan may be the city’s most popular borough, travelers should not discount the outer boroughs like Queens and Brooklyn. Stepping outside of the NYC “movie set” and wandering the side streets is a wonderful way to experience the real New York.

Tip #5 - Eat Well

Food should be its own line item on your travel itinerary, since New York City is home to some of the top restaurants and chefs in the world. On the opposite side of the ambiance spectrum, NYC street food vendors are a staple of New York food culture, serving up everything from hotdogs and pretzels to gyros and doughnuts. A little pre-trip research will yield a list of NYC restaurants that will provide a once in a lifetime dining experience, regardless of your choice of cuisine or dietary restrictions.

New York has four distinct seasons, ranging from cold winters to hot summers. Spring and Autumn are generally regarded as the best time to visit as it is not too cold or too hot.

Many Europeans come across during the winter months to shop and are amazed at the beautiful blue sky but surprised at how cold it is. If they are lucky and there is a snow fall, they will flock to Central Park and join the locals sledding and some even ski on Pilgrim Hill. Most tourists try to avoid New York in the summer when temperatures are often unbearable.

Many tourists flock to Fifth Avenue where there are several parades held there each year and also free concerts. St Patrick’s Day Parade consists of tens of thousands of locals covering the entire area in a sea of green costumes and floats on March 17th each year. The parade starts at Fifth Avenue and 44th Street at 11am each year.

Another parade not to be missed is Easter Parade when New Yorkers dress up in their best clothes and stroll along Fifth Avenue from 44th to 86th Streets every Easter Sunday. In mid May they celebrate Martin Luther King; in fact New Yorkers like to celebrate with parades most months and many of these parades start on Fifth Avenue.

New York offers a wide range of accommodation catering for most price brakes. A new popular form of accommodation is the renting of holiday apartments and homes in the heart of the city.

The City is famous for the large number of restaurants that it has.

As well as fine food, there are plenty of coffee houses, grills, steak houses and Chinese restaurants offering a great choice of cheap food with quick friendly service. For people in a rush, New York offers some of the best fast food outlets in the world. It does not matter if it is day or night, you can always get something to eat twenty four hours a day in New York.

Coffee houses are also open twenty four hours a day in New York and many serve hamburgers and grilled cheese sandwiches.

As well as fashion, New York has a great selection of antique shops and art galleries. It is regarded as the entertainment capital of the world with ballet, dance, concerts, opera and theatre. Most tourists come back to New York year after year as the City has so much for them to see and do.

One of my favorite things is a huge burger overflowing with toppings. On this burger I grilled my homemade patty outdoors with pepper jack cheese. I then topped it with lettuce, tomato, grilled onions and jalapenos on a toasty bun. We had premade frozen French Fries that were curly fries. Under normal circumstances I won’t touch frozen French Fries but these are so bomb. Perfectly crispy and absolutely delicious!

New York strip steak is priced highly for its exceptional flavor and tenderness, and is one of the more expensive beef cuts in the market. Known to many culinary experts as one of the highest quality cuts for beef steaks and preferred by most steak connoisseurs for its marbling, texture, and taste, the strip steak is one of the most important cuts and one of the most sought after part of the cow. The best way to enjoy New York strip steak according to those who favor it is to serve the meat rare, with just a little bit of salt, pepper, and a side of herb butter.

There are a few options for steak delivery. One is to have fresh cut New York strip steaks and any other choice meats delivered to you right after butchering, ensuring that the meat you ordered stays fresh and in top quality. You may also opt to have steak that’s already grilled and prepared by restaurants and steak houses. This is ideal for people who find themselves often too busy to shop or cook, or both.

One of the most well-known places where you can get great steak in New York city is The Strip House, a bordello-styled steak house that is in a class of its own. There are so many other steak houses in New York, as it is a favorite among many New Yorkers and tourists. Locals will even recommend their own favorite steak joints in each area of New York, so don’t be afraid to ask around.

Rare steaks should be grilled between 1-5 minutes at 120-129F, medium rare steak should be at 130-139F. Medium steaks are at 140-149F from 2 to about 7 minutes and medium well at 150 to 159F from 4 minutes to about 9 minutes. Some of the most well-loved recipes for preparing New York steak include the New York strip steak with honey mustard steak sauce. You can also try the Old No. 7 grilled steak, which is another favorite for many steak lovers.

Author: Andrew Reynolds

From my hotel room here in New York, every morning, at around 7am, I’ve noticed a guy who without fail, wheels his Bagel Stand into place right on the street corner. About half an hour later at around 7.30am a line of people begins to form and it’s all the Bagel guy can do to keep up with demand as people thrust their cash at him, as a Bagel and hot coffee buying frenzy begins to take place. After this rush, it goes quiet for a few hours until lunch time and then quiet again until early evening before he finally wheels his Bagel Wagon away and goes home.

Now the reason I point this out … and the reason I found this interesting as I stared down at him from my hotel suite…Is that it reminded me of two very important things:-

The first was the personal rule I imposed upon myself when I first decided to set up my own ‘cash-on-demand’ Home Based business. And that was to create a life of REAL FREEDOM! A life where I was in total control of my own life … where I could decide what I did and when I did it … where I could take several months of the year off and still NOT let it effect my income. Now, in complete contrast, here I was looking at this guy who … with his little Bagel Stand was ‘his own boss’ true enough … but where his CUSTOMERS are ruling HIS life. To cash in on the demand for Bagels from passers-by, He has NO CHOICE but to park his Bagel Stand where he does all day … even when times are quiet …come rain or shine.

The bottom line for him is if he is not selling his Bagels, he is not earning a single penny. It’s his own business yes, but on the other hand it’s his personal own PRISON too…

He can’t do what he wants … go where he wants … and he’ll never live the life he could be living because of it. In short, he is well and truly trapped! So he, like 99.9% of everyone else in business or those working for someone else, is doing the exact opposite of what you would do.

Around 10 years ago I found an alternative, taught to me by a reclusive wealthy guy in the USA. From what he taught me, I successfully developed a system, which I went on to call “cash-on-demand”. The system got its name after I found that, working form my spare room at home – or form my laptop when I am travelling - I could literally go out into the little niche markets that few other people were bothering with - and pull in profits – literally ‘on demand’.

It’s a system that has so far pulled in over £30Million – all starting form my spare room at home – and it’s a system I now use to generate funds for children’s charities each year. It’s a system that I have taught to others too – some of who have pulled in over £1million in just a couple of years after learning the Cash On Demand techniques.
